Line Drawings For Glass Painting
Learn how to do a reverse painting on Glass.
It's not as hard as it looks!
If you are on Tik Tok you would have seen how huge glass painting is at the moment, especially Anime Glass Painting Art. This craft trend isn't going away, so why not give it a go and make some of your own personalised artwork for your home.
Well, I decided to try this trend and to paint on glass in a different style than all the talented artists and sellers are doing on Tik Tok. As much as I love the Anime and Tattoo Flash Glass Paintings, that skill level is beyond my painting expertise 😂
I am loving mushrooms at the moment so I decided to paint some mushrooms with a psychedelic feel. You can practice this craft using the FREE design I created or you can draw your own design.
HOW TO PAINT ON GLASS, THE EASY WAY
The secret to making these glass paintings look good when you are a beginner is to keep the design simple and not too detailed. Learn the basic steps and master those before you move on to more detailed designs.
Not everyone is a talented artist, geez that would be great if we were. But with practice and easy instructions to follow, we can all create our own little masterpieces we can be proud of.

EASY STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO PAINT GLASS PAINTINGS, THE TIK TOK WAY
STEP 1
Remove the glass from your picture frame and put aside the frame backing.
Clean off any fluff and dirt. It should only be dirty if you are upcycling old picture frames from your local charity stores, this step is not needed if it's a new glass picture frame. Clean fluff with a dry cloth.
STEP 2
Draw a picture on a piece of paper the same size as your glass. If you are not confident in drawing your own, you can find a picture online on Pinterest or Google images and print the size of your frame. I used Procreate to draw and colour my picture on my Ipad and then used this as a reference while I was painting.
Below is the picture I drew and used, feel free to save and copy if you like this Trippy Mushroom design. You can save the PDF HERE if you can not save the pic below
STEP 3
Place your picture flat on a table with the glass on top. Place the glass where you would like the design to be. Tape the edge of the glass to the paper. I used an easy to remove painters tape but you can use most sticky tapes.
STEP 4
Trace the design using your black marker. I used a thick round tip marker for the main lines and a fine tip for the thinner lines.
Do this a few times to allow the black to be a solid black line. No dull black lines or seethrough lines. Let the marker dry between coats. I did this 3 times.
Use nail polish remover to remove any mistakes.
STEP 5
Start painting your highlight colours first.
This is your small dots, highlights in white, dark shadows, small details etc So think of this as a reverse painting, what you would normally paint last on your painting, you are now painting first.
Repaint your highlights a few times to make the colours vibrant and solid.
Allow drying between coats.
Wash the paint fully off in the water before changing colours.
For small detailed sections that are too small for your paintbrush, use a toothpick to dab the paint onto the glass. I also use the dabbing method for the larger sections with the paintbrush.
STEP 6
Slowly paint each colour section. Paint your lightest colours first and move to your darker shades last.
Repeat the drying time between coats. I did 3 coats of each colour and leaving a day to dry before redoing the colour
TIP:Dab the paint on instead of strokes, this will give you a more solid look with fewer coats needed. Use different size paint brushes to make it easier
STEP 7 Once you have painted your colours a few times, turn the glass around and hold the glass up to a light or window to see where more paint may need to be added to make a solid colour. Repaint the spots that you can see through.
STEP 8
Turn over your glass and be amazed at how cool the end result is. From the back, it looks pretty ugly and you would never know the hidden gem that is awaiting you on the other side.
STEP 9
Display on a little plate stand or place back into your frame and glue the glass in place with a hot glue gun dot in each corner at the back of the frame.
Remember you do not have to have a perfect final result on your first try, keep going and have fun with this glass painting craft trend. Mine is far from perfect, I needed to do another layer of the black marker but other than that I am surprised how much I love it and I definitely will be creating more designs in the future.

TIP: Turn over and place the glass up to a bright window to see any little sections that are see-through or you have missed. You can then add some paint to those sections to create a solid colour look.
Display your glass painting in your favourite spot in your home and enjoy. This craft can be for all ages. For younger children, you can paint a very basic cartoon or picture. For Teens or college University students you could create Anime glass paintings, quotes or gifts for friends. Mums could make some beautiful art for nurseries or kids rooms. The use of this DIY painting craft is endless!
